Reading Buddies Help Younger Kids Succeed ๐ ๐ซ
April 15, 2016
Elementary teacher Mrs. Biggs was wanting to find a way to motivate her readers to reach new goals. She approached Mrs. Thaden about the "reading buddies" idea, who then selected 6th grade students who were responsible, motivated, and would be willing to donate some time outside the classroom to motivate students who are younger than them. Since they are separated by buildings, the idea of video chatting was born. The students video chat one day a week. They discuss the book that is being read, strategies that may help, and they do a brief summary of the book and try to inspire/challenge their buddies to set goals that will be beneficial. It's a win-win!
